Film Scanning System - FS-5 (digital system)

Perfect inspection of all surfaces
High-speed digital line camera for increased evaluation speed and resolution
Detection of impurities, holes, scratches and other surface irregularities (gels, black-specks and dish eyes)
Suitable for R&D, laboratory, and for at-line use for continuous quality control of narrow strips
Blown and cast film production lines where film is several metres in width and runs at a high speed (LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP, PC, PS and in the lab scale for rubber etc)
Reflection/transmission light mode

Film Quality Scanning System FS-5 OCS has been developing and supplying measuring systems based on optical data processing and also related devices for the polymer industry for over 10 years. During this time, the company has become one of the leaders in this area.

Application

The Film Quality Scanning System FS-5 was designed for the perfect inspection of surfaces. It can be used for the quality control of both transparent materials, such as films, glass etc., and non-transparent/opaque materials, like paper, metals or textiles. The system detects impurities and surface irregularities, e.g. fisheyes and black specks, in 10 adjustable class sizes from a minimum diameter of 10 µm upwards.

Components

FS-5 consists of a special high-speed digital area sensor and a lighting unit located in separate protective aluminium housings. The use of a digital camera as opposed to an analogue device (FS-3) means a four-fold increase in evaluation speed. The sensor is connected to a high-performance image-processing computer, which is integrated into a 19''-4HE housing.

The system is suitable for laboratory use, research and development and for production lines with high-speed strips (up to 400m/min) and material several metres in width.

Mode of Operation

Transmission light is used to inspect transparent material, with the area sensor and the lighting unit installed opposite one another, inspecting the film which runs between them.

Reflection light is used for non-transparent/opaque materials, with the area sensor and the lighting unit operated from the same side. Both methods of examination can be combined.

Features

A very important feature of the FS-5 is the shape factor. It facilitates the recognition of defects and their source. The gels and contamination are distributed into predetermined class sizes. The defects are then assigned to the respective section of the strips.

The frequency of recurring defects helps to draw conclusions of possible technical problems. Types of mistakes can be defined in advance, so that these defects are recognised and registered once they occur, and the images saved to aid later analysis.

Software

The system's software is menu-driven, user-friendly and complies to a large degree to the SAA-standard. A test certificate can be printed out after each measurement. All data is stored simultaneously, including the time, date and length of the inspected material, making a later evaluation of all data possible.
