Rheology
Solutions
is pleased to present this series of industrial seminars and workshops
specifically targeting rheology and its applications within four
major industry areas (surface coatings, food, polymers, and mineral
processing) in both Victoria and NSW.
The seminar
and workshop series includes a guest speaker who will be co-presenting
with Dr Tim Kealy from Rheology Solutions. The guest speaker has
been selected based on a combination of their extensive industry
knowledge and their ability to practically apply the principles
of rheology. They will provide an industry overview across trends
and challenges faced from a materials testing perspective.
The seminar
and workshop series will provide a practical and hands on approach
to rheology. The series will utilise both our expertise and equipment
to provide participants the opportunity to demystify the science.
The guest speaker will further enhance the experience with the provision
of industrial perspectives.
The
Program
There will be a limit of 30 people at each of the full day sessions
to ensure that each participant is provided with an opportunity
for hands-on use of the instruments during the workshop. The series
are being held in Melbourne and Sydney and are scheduled as follows:
August 2003 - Surface
Coatings - including paint, inks, adhesives etc
Victoria - 26 August 2003 NSW - 29 August
2003
November 2003 - Food
- including gels, emulsions etc
Victoria - 11 November 2003 NSW - 27 November
2003
February 2004 - Polymers
- including rubbers, carbon black etc
Victoria - end February 2004 NSW - end February
2004
May 2004 - Mineral Processing
- including slurries, colloids etc
Victoria - end May 2004 NSW - end May 2004
Costs
$395 plus GST. Early bird registration $350 plus GST
The
Seminar
will be conducted by Dr Tim Kealy who will combine practical and
theoretical elements utilising demonstrations to illustrate the
concepts of the key process parameters within the specific industry.
Concepts such as shear viscosity, yield stress, shear rate, viscoelasticity
and extensional properties will be addressed. To facilitate a clearer
understanding of the theory, demonstrations using industry specific
samples will be run. These demonstrations will show the importance
and significance of measuring these parameters (sheer viscosity,
yield stress etc) and their role and impact on product quality and
process performance.
The
Guest Speaker will provide a practical industry perspective
elaborating on rheology and its use within the specific industry.
This will highlight the realities and impact of rheology across
many facets of the process or manufacturing cycle. This will also
cover key industry trends and challenges taking into account the
use of technology from a process perspective for materials testing.
The
Workshop will be run throughout the afternoon. The concept
of the workshop is to provide each person with hands-on experience
with a range of instruments (viscometer, rheometer, texture analyser,
melt flow indexer, extensional rheometer etc as appropriate to the
specific industry) utilising a number of relevant samples. Each
participant will have time for individual discussions and to learn
about and test for the rheological and materials testing parameters
that are important for their industry.
Aim
of The Series
Increase the level of
understanding through education of the practical uses and benefits
of rheology measurements within the participants industrial sector...
this will be achieved by offering an introductory seminar and workshop
that focuses on hands-on experience and relevant demonstrations.
Remove the mystery and
perceived difficulties with rheological measurements and data interpretation...
by providing the forum for discussion and debate from industrial
and theoretical perspectives.
Increase the diversity
and number of individuals and organisations active within the field
of rheology.
Facilitate peer interaction
and discussions with other participants, guest speakers and presenters.
Provide participants
with access to and hands-on experience with cutting edge instrumentation
using test materials and pre- determined test methods specific and
relevant to their industry.
Provide up to date relevant
professional course material.
Benefits
for Participants
Increased knowledge and
appreciation of rheology and its power as a tool for understanding
and improving process performances.
Every participant should
leave with a basic understanding of rheology theory and practical
applications relevant to their industry.
Each participant will
be provided with increased applications expertise and an enhanced
understanding of the techniques and technologies available in their
industry. This will be achieved by reviewing how different instruments
find uses in the fields of QA/QC, R&D, product development and process
optimisation. Participants will be guided in choosing the correct
instrument and technique to obtain the correct level of information
to evaluate and/or to solve a product, application or process challenge.
Participants will be
provided with the details of existing support networks and expertise
available in the wider Australian community, and be afforded the
opportunity to access these resources if and when required.
Who
Should Attend All engineers, scientists, laboratory staff
and research and development personnel involved in materials based
challenges who and are seeking to learn more about rheology and
its practical applications.
The seminar
and workshop will not be highly technical, though a basic theoretical
overview will be necessary and this will be provided with the help
of practical demonstrations and industry specific examples throughout
the seminar section.
The series are
aimed at industrial participants who are seeking an increased understanding
of rheology to supplement their knowledge of their industry. This
series will provide valuable knowledge to assist in identifying
methods to resolve materials based challenges within a specific
industry.
