The ViscoScope system measures the dynamic viscosity directly in the process.

The unique and proprietory sensor construction includes capabilities, which could previously not be accomplished. Using this sensor combined with our new electronic, it is possible to cover all applications with one model, which were previously covered by different models. The new electronic will be unveiled during the ACHEMA 2003 in Frankfurt, Germany.

By analysing the internal operation of the sensor during each measurement cycle, we are able to monitor the internal function of the sensor and make decisions based on that analysis. This also enables us to cover applications, which could previously not be done. The new sensor combined with the electronic utilizes the internal monitoring capability, to adjust the operation and provide an early warning system.

The systems are factory calibrated with NIST tracable, shear independent calibration oils. Customer calibration is not required. Start-up of the system is accomplished in a few simple steps, including an automatic zero procedure, which can be invoked from the front panel, a Pocket PC or remotely. Maintenance free operation of the ViscoScope system provides low cost of ownership.

The model VA-300 sensor is capable to measure viscosities between 0.1 and a maximum of 2,500,000 mPa.s dependent on the actual construction of the sensor. The model VA-300 sensor covers temperature ranges all the way to 1,500degC or 2,750degF. Some versions of the model VA-300 sensor are capable of handling pressures up to 450 bar or 6,500 psi.

Dependent on the application requirements one or two Pt100 temperature measurement devices will be used within the sensor. The first Pt100 is built into the sensor probe itself and measures the process temperature at the same location, at which the viscosity is being measured. A second Pt100 is being used in higher temperature applications to measure the coil temperature. Besides internal monitoring and analysis of the health of the sensor, the second Pt100 can be used for temperature control of the coils, providing consistant performance of the sensor at changing high process temperatures.

The sensors are approved for hazardous areas with the appropriate safety barriers:

The sensor can also be provided with different agency approvals.

The ViscoScope VA-300 sensor is compatible with the ViscoScope electronics VS-4450 and VS-B450.
